Prepare & Take Precautions MA Hurricane Preparedness Week 2020

Governor Charlie Baker has proclaimed July 12 - 18, 2020, to be Hurricane Preparedness Week in an effort to emphasize both the Commonwealth’s potential vulnerability to tropical storms and hurricanes, and the importance of preparing for their impacts. 

MA Residents and visitors are encouraged to use this week to prepare for hurricanes, tropical storms and other emergencies.

This week serves reminder of the Commonwealth’s potential vulnerability to tropical storms and hurricanes, the importance of preparing for their impact. This includes taking necessary precautions during the COVID-19 public health emergency.

MEMA advises residents to take some simple steps to prepare for a potential weather emergency.

  1. Make an emergency plan that takes in account how your family would communicate, evacuate and shelter in place. Ensure the needs of all family members, including seniors, children, those with special needs and pets are accounted for. See details on how to make a family emergency plan.
  2. Build or customize an emergency kit that will sustain your household for three to five days without power. Make sure it includes face coverings or masks, disinfectants, hand sanitizer and other cleaning supplies that you may need in an emergency. See more about building an emergency kit.
  3. Stay informed by having multiple methods for receiving emergency alerts. See more about emergency alerts.
  4. Know your evacuation zone and learn in you live or work in a hurricane or evacuation zone
