SERVPRO Professionally Extracts Water and Moisture to Mitigate Damages

After water gets into your home, every minute is important. Regardless if the flooding happens from storm water, a broken pipe or a faulty water heater, it throws your life into a tailspin and can seriously compromise the livability and safety of your home.

To quickly deal with the effects of water damage in your Shrewsbury home, call SERVPRO. We are one of the premier restoration companies in the state; with decades of experience and the extensive training needed to help you put your home back together. Our inspectors and technicians meet every IICRC standard required before we send them out to your home. We hold many additional certifications as well.

Removing the bulk of the water can be accomplished in less than a day, usually. To completely dry your home and make it safe from mold and other hazards the process typically takes longer. There are four factors that affect how quickly we can get your home dry again.

Temperature - If a room is too cool, it slows the evaporation process. Technicians will use a series of space heaters to raise the temperature to point somewhere between 70 and 80 percent. If we raise it higher than that on the first day, the hotter air can actually retain more moisture and work against our efforts.

Amount of Water to be Evaporated - Simply put the more water trapped in floors and walls adds to the moisture in the air, and our technicians try to extract every drop possible. In addition to the heaters for raising the temperature, technicians will place dehumidifiers at key positions to draw moisture from the air. Each machine can draw up to 30 gallons per day.

Humidity - Relative Humidity (RH) is the percentage of moisture in the air. Most people are comfortable with a range of 30 to 50 percent. Levels over 60 percent in your home slow the drying process and provide an atmosphere where inactive mold spores can begin to expand and grow. We can bring this level down to around 30 percent after 24 hours with the use of the dehumidifiers and heaters.

Air Movement - By moving or circulating the air in a high moisture area, the heaters and dehumidifiers work more efficiently. Technicians set up a series of air moving machines to blow damp air out and replace it with warmer dry air. These machines are also very useful to evenly dry the surfaces of tables and other furniture.
